Time and time again, we have witnessed that education is the key to helping children and their families break out of the cycle of poverty. For this reason, educational sponsorship is the heart of Africa New Life’s efforts! Today, more than 11,000 students are sponsored across Rwanda. Their sponsorship means they can attend school regularly and have the materials and support needed to succeed, regardless of their material circumstances. When you sponsor a child in Rwanda, you can help to break the cycle of poverty and free a child to dream!

Sponsorship with Africa New Life is real and transformative. When you sponsor a child in Rwanda through Africa New Life, you come alongside one real Rwandan student who will get to know you through letters and photos, who will pray for you, and who will even hope to meet you someday! You get the chance to support their education and partner with them in their dreams for the future, to come alongside their family as they face the joys and challenges of daily life, and to be encouraged by the unique and meaningful relationship sponsorship creates. And you get the profound satisfaction of watching your support help transform a young person’s life and being part of a transformative chain reaction that will empower an entire community.

Africa New Life has two top-priority goals for each student we work with:

1. Help them complete high school or a vocational equivalent, and

2. Bring them into a loving relationship with Christ.

While we meet these goals through many different programmes and ministry areas, educational sponsorship is the first step. When you sponsor a child in Rwanda for just £24 each month, you help their family by assisting them with school fees so they can pay for other expenses. Sponsored students receive a school uniform and scholastic materials. They are encouraged to attend monthly Center Days, where they enjoy a meal, play games, and hear about Christ, as well as a yearly Christian camp. Additionally, sponsorship covers basic medical needs that fall outside of government-sponsored insurance, so sponsored students have greater access to health care. There is no aging out for students in our programme; we commit to supporting them until they complete their upper secondary education or a vocational equivalent, regardless of age—so that they can pursue their dreams and support themselves without fear of poverty.

ONCE A SPONSORED STUDENT — NOW A FUTURE ECONOMIST

Liliane grew up in Kayonza, the daughter of a single mom who helped out at a hospital during the day. From a young age, Liliane prepared food at home and took care of her brother. The two children were among the first to get registered and sponsored through Africa New Life, meaning they could attend school without worrying about where their tuition fees and other academic costs would come from. Though at first there was a steep learning curve, by the end of year three, she was one of the top students in her school! In secondary school, her incredible teachers helped her not only with academics but also with preparation for the future. She scored so well on her national exams at the end of upper secondary school that she was able to qualify for a university bachelor’s degree programme—with costs once again covered thanks to a generous Africa New Life sponsor.

Now, Liliane has a bachelor’s degree in Economics and has plans to start her own business. She believes she has a role to play in the future of her country—a role that sponsorship helped set her up for.

“Sponsorship is real,” Liliane says. “The situations our parents were in and how hard it was—it’s hard to express how helpful sponsorship is. It is time for our generation to stand and the country itself will be transformed.”
